DETAILED SYNOPSIS:
TRAGEDY: THE STORY OF QUEENSBRIDGE is a gritty
feature doc about the worldās largest housing
projects, home of the richest legacy in hip-hop, as
told by underground rapper and street legend
Tragedy Khadafi.
Queensbridge (QB). Just across the bridge from
rich upper east Manhattan. 96 buildings and six
blocks of crime and rap, home of MARLEY MARL,
THE JUICE CREW, NAS, CORMEGA, MOBB DEEP, CNN
and the realest rapper of them all: TRAGEDY.
Tragedyās story is unique because he lived every
great Queensbridge moment. So in telling his
story, heās telling the story of his hood.
While still in his motherās womb, Tragedyās dad is shot dead. Thirteen
years later, with his mom hooked on smack, Trag robs drug dealers to
feed his brothers and sisters.
But the kidās a rap genius, and joins the world famous Juice Crew -- until
heās arrested for armed robbery and sent to one of the worst prisons in
America, at age 16!
Trag emerges political, releasing his acclaimed INTELLIGENT HOODLUM
album. If hip-hop is ghetto CNN and the hood a war zone, then Trag is
a war reporter...and king of QB, until heās eclipsed by Nas and Mobb
Deep, Queensbridge artists he helped give birth to.
Directionless, Trag falls prey to the streets. Until he discovers teen
soldiers Capone-N-Noreaga ĪCNNā and scores them a record deal. Trag is
hailed as a genius for masterminding CNNās geo-political WAR REPORT
album, using rap to describe world leaders as thugs scheming in the
global hood. CNN are ghetto superstars with no help from corporate
America. Trag is a mogul in the making.
Capone is busted for weapons and Noreaga abandons Trag for a solo
career. Then Tragās mom overdoses. Trag turns pain into inspiration,
recording his hauntingly beautiful STILL REPORTING album. But days
before the release, with stardom on the horizon, Trag is thrown in jail
once again.
Today, out on bail, Trag is still reporting from the hood, and keeping it
real in Queensbridge. Tragedyās life IS a tragedy. But through hip-hop,
he triumphs.
